The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Health Information Technology degree program at Utah Career College provides students with technical and business skills and medical knowledge that set them apart in the workplace.

Why an associate degree?
Many employers look for an associate degree on a job candidate’s resume or when making a decision about promoting a current employee. The Associate in Health Information Technology degree program, in addition to training in medical office procedures, includes several business courses and 30 credits in general education electives. Those liberal arts courses provide students with general knowledge and practice in critical and analytical problem solving, preparing them to work with diverse groups of clients and coworkers. The capstone courses are the Externship, during which a student applies knowledge and skills in a medical office setting, and Coding Certification Review, preparing the student to sit for national certification exams in health information technology and medical coding.
Associate degree or diploma?
All courses from the Medical Coding and Billing diploma program at Utah Career College are included in the above requirements. If you decide to earn the diploma, enter the workforce, and then continue your studies to earn a Health Information Technology associate’s degree, all work from your diploma program will transfer smoothly to your associate’s degree.
The additional coursework in business management, health information technology and liberal arts required for the associate degree in Health Information Technology program, will demonstrate to employers that you are interested in continued professional development and ready to assume advanced responsibilities.
