If you are considering a career in this rewarding, high-demand area, we invite you to contact us for information about our programs.

Features of medical assistant programs at Utah Career College

  • At Utah Career College, our Medical Assistant Program Advisory Committee (a group of area medical professionals and healthcare employers) oversees our medical assistant programs to ensure our graduates have high-value skills.
  • Graduates have the knowledge and skills for entry-level employment as medical assistants and are prepared to sit for national certification exams.
  • Medical assistant instructors are professionals with extensive experience in the field. They prepare students for the challenges and opportunities that await them.
  • Every medical assistant course and every class session emphasizes practical, hands-on training. Graduates have real experience in areas such as phlebotomy and radiology.
  • Class sizes are small – students receive the attention they need to succeed in challenging medical assistant courses.
  • Programs are offered at campus locations in West Jordan (15 miles south of Salt Lake City Center), Layton and Orem. Some courses required for the programs can be taken through our Online Education Department.
  • We offer a two-year Associate in Medical Assistant degree program and a 15-month Medical Assistant Diploma program.
  • Utah Career College Medical Assisting Programs in Layton and West Jordan are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), on recommendation of the Curriculum Review Board of the American Association of Medical Assistants Endowment (AAMAE).

What does a medical assistant do?

A medical assistant (MA) is qualified for a variety of career opportunities, working closely with a physician in a clinic or other outpatient care setting. The MA performs clinical tasks, such as drawing blood, running lab tests and taking patient information, as well as handling insurance coding and other administrative responsibilities. These compassionate, multi-skilled allied health care professionals help meet patients’ needs and keep medical offices running smoothly.
