The Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (A.A.S. in Nursing) degree program at Utah Career College prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

A graduate of the associate nursing program who passes the NCLEX-RN will apply to become licensed to work as a Registered Nurse (RN). An RN licensed in Utah is automatically part of the Interstate Compact through which states recognize RN licenses from other states, and is qualified for a wide range of careers in nursing.

HESI exams and NCLEX exam preparation

As an integral part of the two-year nursing program at UCC, students take HESI exams beginning in the fourth quarter, measuring their progress towards success in passing related portions of the NCLEX. This early feedback allows the school to provide remedial or supplementary education to students, helping them master the material before graduation.

Other certifications and memberships for nursing students

During Medical-Surgical II in some quarters, students have the option of becoming certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Nursing students at Utah Career College are encouraged to join the National Organization of Associate Degree Nurses (NOADN); and to participate actively in the Utah Student Nurses Association.

A student entering the nursing program must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) before beginning the UCC nursing program.

Students must be currently certified for Basic Life Support with the American Heart Association before participating in nursing clinicals.

Campus and community memberships

Students in our nursing program are encouraged to participate as Student Ambassadors for UCC, and to participate in community service projects and organizations.
