The Pharmacy Technology associate degree and diploma programs at Utah Career College prepare students to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam, the Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) and for the Utah Law Exam for pharmacy technicians.
The PTCB exam and the ExCPT both entitle a person who achieves a passing grade to use the title Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). This certification is a powerful credential, demonstrating to employers that the technician has mastered skills and knowledge needed to safely, accurately and efficiently prepare and dispense prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist. A passing grade on the Utah Law Exam is required for the state Pharmacy Technician License.
Pharmacy technology coursework and PTCB exam review
Utah Career College offers two pharmacy technology programs at its West Jordan campus, 13 miles south of Salt Lake City:
- Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technology (a two-year degree program)
- Pharmacy Technology Diploma (a 12-month technical program)
Both programs include rigorous pharmacy technology courses as well as supporting medical and technical courses. After completing that coursework, a student enrolls in Certification Review, a comprehensive program review that emphasizes preparation for the national pharmacy technician certification exams. The review includes practice tests and test-taking strategies. UCC students have an exceptionally high pass rate on both exams.
Pharmacy technology certification (CPhT) means a strong resume
A resume that includes the initials CPhT demonstrates to employers that the job candidate is well prepared to assume the critical responsibilities facing a person pursuing a career in pharmacy technology.
A comprehensive career training program includes career placement assistance. In the final quarter of studies at UCC, a student takes Career Development. The class includes instruction and assistance in preparing a cover letter and resume and interview practice. If you are interested in pursuing national certification as a pharmacy technician, or would like more information about UCC health degree programs, a representative will be happy to help you.
