At Utah Career College, paralegal studies programs provide students with thorough professional training. The school is a member of several state and national organizations for paralegal professionals, paralegal students are active in a variety of organizations and graduates are prepared to sit for national paralegal certification exams.
National paralegal certification exam preparation
In the final quarter of the Bachelor’s in Paralegal Studies degree program, or after completing all required legal specialty courses, the paralegal student student takes a 2-credit review course.
The course prepares the student to sit for the certification exam given by the National Association of Legal Assistants-Paralegals (NALA). Topics in the CLA review include material covered in legal courses: the American legal system and litigation process, and substantive law in the areas of family law, criminal law, contract law, estate planning and probate, real estate law and administrative law.
In addition to that knowledge review, students take mock examinations in areas of legal research, judgment, analytical ability, human relations, communication and ethics. These soft skills are critical to success in a paralegal career.
As in all coursework at UCC, class sizes are small, and students receive the attention they need to succeed. We are pleased to say that our graduates’ pass rate on the NALA-CLA exam is excellent.
Student paralegal associations and activities
Utah Career College has a chapter of Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), the National Paralegal Honor Society. Students must have completed at least two-thirds of their programs and be in the top 20 percent of those who have completed at least two-thirds of their programs to be inducted into LEX.
We have a partnership with the Utah Division of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate). CASA provides training to students who become CASA volunteers.
Paralegal education association memberships
Utah Career College is a member of the following organizations for the promotion of paralegal education and professional standards:
- The American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE)
