Veterinary Technology

Veterinary Technicians perform both administrative and clinical duties, with a variety of patients from a 10 gram Finch to a 100 pound Rottweiler. If you posses the love and desire to help our "little friends" that can't help themselves then this is the career path for you. Patients and clients rely on you to carry out your responsibilities professionally and proficiently.

The Veterinary world is fast paced. This keeps veterinary technicians on their toes. Your day could involve assisting with surgeries, educating clients about new pets, washing dogs, dispense medication for a patient, and assisting a pet hit by a car all before lunch. Our Veterinary Technology program is designed to prepare our students for the exciting fast paced lives of veterinary technicians. The Veterinary Technology program is condensed to allow you to quickly enter the job market and achieve your goal.

A large variety of career opportunities are available for new graduates with a Veterinary Technology degree including:

  • Veterinary Office Supervisor
  • Animal Caretaker
  • Wildlife Animal Rehabilitation
  • Humane Society Worker
  • Pet Nutritionist
  • Pet Store Buyer/Manager
  • Research Assistant
  • Pet Product Sale Representative
  • Boarding/Breeding Kennel

Upon completion of the required courses, students receive veterinary technology training at an externship location. Students gain knowledge and experience in a veterinary office and clinical settings to enhance their knowledge and employability.

A veterinary technology externship totals 300 hours and includes all activities done in both the office and a clinical setting. Students are placed and monitored at the externship by the veterinary technician externship coordinator. Externship duties will vary from site to site and by students interests. Typically students will be assisting the vet with routine exams and treatments, administering nursing and supportive care to patients, and performing front office and laboratory procedures, as well as assisting with surgery, radiology, and patient care.
