Veterinary Technology at Utah Career College

Alex AranguaHi, Everyone!

I am very excited to tell you about the Utah Career College veterinary technology program. I am a veterinarian with 25 years of experience in small animal medicine, and know the great value veterinary technicians provide in all aspects of veterinary medical services.

All veterinary technology instructors at UCC are experienced in the field. Their collective experience covers all aspects of the veterinary technician’s world.

It is motivating to see how eager our students are to learn when they just get here, knowing very little about medicine yet with a great passion and love for animals.

It is rewarding to later see them walking across the stage to receive their diplomas. As graduates, they are confident in their futures and proud of degrees gained with sacrifice and hard work. They are prepared to apply their knowledge and skills in the fascinating profession of veterinary technology.

A veterinary technology college program, a rewarding career

Veterinary technicians work with a variety of patients, including 10-gram Finches, 100-pound Rottweilers, race horses and raptors, in small animal hospitals, equine medicine practices and wildlife conservation projects. It is an exciting and fast-paced field. If you possess the love and desire to help our "little friends" that cannot speak for themselves, consider a career as a vet tech.

Veterinarians, animals and animal owners will rely on you to carry out your responsibilities professionally and proficiently. The Associate in Veterinary Technology degree program at Utah Career College will provide you with hands-on training and medical knowledge to perform administrative and clinical duties, including those in five key areas of veterinary medicine:

  • Animal dentistry
  • Veterinary laboratory procedures
  • Imaging/radiology
  • Surgical assisting
  • Public education

More about our college’s veterinary technology program

A leader in veterinary technology, our college provides the vet tech student with a sound base in scientific knowledge, and practice in procedures including hematology, surgical assisting, dentistry and imaging before the student begins the capstone veterinary technology course, a 300-hour externship. As a result, graduates are prepared to carry out procedures that untrained hires wait months to perform.

Veterinary technology careers take technicians into a wide range of settings, including small animal hospitals, breeding kennels, humane societies, equine practices, wildlife rehabilitation centers and product manufacturing companies. A representative of our school’s Career Placement Department provides each graduate with individualized job search assistance.

The twenty-seven month veterinary technology program is offered at campus locations in West Jordan (15 miles south of Salt Lake City Center), Layton and Orem. If you have questions about Veterinary Technology at Utah Career College, or are interested in enrolling, please contact UCC Admissions. A representative will be happy to help you.
